Denture options to meet a wide variety of needs at Mississauga dental clinic
When you think of dentures, a complete set of removable prosthetic teeth likely comes to mind. But did you know that there are several types of modern dentures available, including dentures that can replace as little as one tooth or dentures that stay permanently secured in your mouth? At Huron Dental Centre in Mississauga, ON, we provide a wide variety of denture options at our dental clinic and love helping patients regain their teeth’ function and confidence in their smiles!
Your smile, your choice!
No two people are precisely alike, and their smiles shouldn’t be either! When it comes to replacing teeth after loss due to decay, disease, trauma, or other reasons, we believe that you should have a wide variety of choices to select from so you can find the perfect solution for your preferences, goals, and budget. Dentures are entirely customizable based on how many teeth you are replacing, how you secure them in your mouth, and even when you get them with dental extractions. Some of the questions to ask when you are considering the best type of dentures for your needs include:
- Are you replacing some or all of your teeth? Complete dentures are used to replace an entire arch of teeth and are sometimes called “full dentures,” whereas dentures replacing only one or some of the teeth in an arch are called “partial dentures.”
- Do you want your dentures to be removable or fixed in place? Traditional full dentures are held in place by natural suction or denture adhesives, and partial dentures are generally held in place with clips on your existing teeth. Conversely, implant-supported dentures, or “fixed dentures,” are permanently secured in your mouth with surgically placed implants that provide a sturdy foundation for the denture. While removable dentures cost less than implant-supported dentures, some patients can experience slipping with removable dentures avoided with implant-supported dentures. Additionally, patients with implant-supported dentures typically have a less restricted diet, and the implants also prevent bone deterioration that can occur after tooth loss.
- Do you want your dentures immediately (same-day)? If you are getting your dentures after tooth extractions, in some cases, we can place them on the same day as your extractions, so you don’t need to go for an extended duration without teeth. It is an excellent option for ensuring that you don’t lose the function or aesthetics of your smile for any length of time. Still, because your gums and tissues will change as they heal, it is typically necessary to reline or replace the dentures after the healing process is complete so they fit your mouth correctly for a secure fit.
